About the Programme Migration for Development (PME)

The Programme “Migration for Development” (PME) was commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and is being implemented on their behalf by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. It is a global programme and currently active in thirteen partner countries: Afghanistan, Albania, Egypt, the Gambia, Ghana, Iraq, Kosovo, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, Senegal, Serbia and Tunisia. The programme is part of the German Government’s Returning to New Opportunities” programme. It fosters the return and reintegration of migrants in their countries of origin so as to improve the prospects of returnees and of their home countries. PME is embedded in the context of the "Sustainable Development Goals" of the Agenda 2030. The Programme has two specific objectives: strengthening the development related positive effects of migration and reducing its risks for each phase of the migration cycle. This is achieved through the Jobs, Migration and Reintegration Centres and the target groups are potential migrants as well as returning migrants from Germany and third countries. These Centres offer information and counselling on potential prospects for educational and professional development in the home country as well as information and advice on possibilities and requirements for regular migration. Potential returnees themselves are also given information and advice on their socioeconomic prospects in their home countries. Advisory services are provided online, in print and at face-to-face events so as to accommodate the user groups’ different communication preferences.

 

About the Egyptian German Center (EGC) for Jobs, Migration and Reintegration

The Egyptian-German Center for Jobs, Migration and Reintegration (EGC) is a cooperation between the Ministry of State for Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates’ Affairs under the presidential initiative “Life Saving Boats” and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. It is operated by the programme “Migration for Development” (PME), and part of the initiative “Returning to New Opportunities”. It supports the sustainable reintegration of returning migrants, creates socio-economic opportunities for young Egyptians in their home country, and contributes to safe, regular and responsible migration. The Egyptian and German governments agreed to strengthen their collaboration in the fields of employment promotion, private sector development and migration management. In this regard, and building on the experiences of GIZ in other countries, the global programme PME will offer information and advisory services in the Egyptian-German Center for Jobs, Migration, and Reintegration to the following target groups: young Egyptians seeking to study or work in Germany, young Egyptians seeking employment, education and/or training opportunities in Egypt, and Egyptians returning from Germany or a third country and seeking assistance with their reintegration into society.

Communication Assistant

A.   Responsibilities

The Communication Assistant is responsible for:

  • assisting in Public Relations activities including organizing events, preparing for visits and handling of media relations.
  • supporting with the implementation of the activities in the Media and Communication Unit inside PME to increase awareness about the Center and enhance its visibility.
  • assisting in the logistics of different workshops, seminars, conferences, etc.
  • coordinating with different service providers working on media and communication products and services.
  • drafting and editing different communication material.
  • filing, collecting data and maintaining databases of the Media and Communication unit.

 

The Communication Assistant performs the following tasks:

1.    Communications

The Communication Assistant

  • prepares the content and the design of different publications such as reports, factsheets, brochures, etc.
  • creates content for the Center’s social media platforms and answers the beneficiaries’ questions.
  • assists in managing and publishing news on the EGC website.
  • translates documents (Arabic/English/Arabic) per request.

 

2.    Public Relations

The Communication Assistant

  • assists in organising events and different visits.
  • sets meetings and takes minutes of meetings.
  • documents events and activities happening at the Center or outside.
  • collects and writes success stories of the project’s beneficiaries.
  • takes photos of the events and the workshops.

 

3.    Outreach

The Communication Assistant

  • Assists in organizing job fairs and outreach missions inside and outside Cairo.

 

4.    Other duties/additional tasks

The Communication Assistant

  • performs other duties and tasks at the request of management.

 

C.   Required qualifications, competences, and experience.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, Marketing or a relevant qualification.

 

Professional experience

  • Minimum of 1-3 years of relevant experience.
  • Prior experience in development cooperation is an asset.

 

Other knowledge, additional competences

  • Experience in using a graphic design software.
  • Experience in photography and videography.
  • Experience in managing professional social media accounts.
  • Ability to travel inside Egypt for workshops and outreach events.
  • Fluent written and oral knowledge of English and Arabic.
  • High standard research and report writing skills.
  • High standard presentation and illustration skills.
  • Excellent working knowledge of IT technologies (related software, phone, email, the internet) and computer applications (e.g. MS Office).
  • Ability to work in an intercultural environment.
  • Demonstrate high flexibility, creative and innovative thinking.
  • Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed – corresponding measures are agreed with the Head of Activity Field.
